San Juan Alpine Task Force (SJATF) will use a set of techniques best suited for San Juan County, Colorado to acquire and transfer land with Land and Water Conservation Funds, conservation easements (with a mining component if possible), owner donations and land trades with the Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management. Drawing on inspiration and technical assistance from the Red Mountain Task Force, SJATF is currently positioned to duplicate their success on a much smaller scale through a multi-year effort. SJATF will focus on special areas with emphasis on ensuring the continued economic prosperity of the County through cultural and heritage tourism as well as expanding our recreational potential. To meet these goals and objectives, SJATF will coordinate with the BLM/Department of Interior to apply for approximately one million dollars in Land and Water Funds through Federal appropriations in the Fall of 2005 for the Federal Budget of 2007. |
